Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema to Merge: Jio Hotstar to Launch Before IPL 2025

JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar to rebrand as JioHotstar.

As all of you know, Jio and Star India have been merged already as Jiostar, now their OTT platforms are also going to merge. The Disney+ Hotstar has also released the teaser.  Reports suggest that JioCinema will shut down. Its content will be integrated into Disney+ Hotstar, which will now be rebranded as Jio Hotstar. This initiative seeks to bring together sports, movies, TV shows, and web series on a single platform, turning it into a one-stop destination for entertainment.

Jio Hotstar to Include JioCinema Content

With the merger of Jiocinema and Disney+ Hotstar, the content of both platforms will be available on one platform. As we told you before, the Jio Cinema will shut down soon and its content will be shifted to Hotstar. Soon, you will witness categories like Jiocinema Original and Colors Rishtey. 

WPL to Stream on Disney+ Hotstar

If you are a WPL fan, you might know that WPL used to be telecast on JioCinema and Sports 18 network. Surprisingly, this time, the tournament is set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar and Star Sports network. It hinted that both platforms are soon to be merged. 

IPL 2025 Moves Behind a Paywall

Similar to WPL, IPL is also coming back to JioHotstar. However, it means that IPL 2025 will no longer be free. Unlike IPL 2023 and 2024, IPL 2025 could now be placed behind a paywall. You might need to subscribe to Jio Hotstar to watch live matches. However, there is no confirmation about the same.

What This Means for Viewers

For existing Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema users, this merger means all premium entertainment will be available under one subscription. However, subscription prices are expected to change, and further details on the pricing structure will be revealed soon.

 

When will JioHotstar launch?

Since the announcement of JioHotstar, many people are desperate to see the new merger platform. However, the exact date of launch is not announced yet, but the official launch of Jio Hotstar is expected before IPL 2025.
