Renowned filmmaker Prasanth Varma, celebrated for creating the HanuMan phenomenon, has officially revealed the first look of actress Bhoomi Shetty as the titular character ‘Maha’ in his much-awaited Telugu mythological superhero film – Mahakali. Announced on October 30, 2025, the film marks the second installment in the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) and promises to bring a divine yet fierce female superhero to the forefront of Indian cinema.
The project, directed by Puja Kolluru, who served as the associate director on HanuMan, represents a bold new step in Varma’s cinematic vision — one that merges the power of mythology with the spectacle of superhero storytelling.
Bhoomi Shetty’s Transformation into ‘Maha’
The first look poster showcases Bhoomi Shetty in a visually arresting avatar — adorned with gold ornaments, a blood-streaked face, and an intense expression that radiates power, devotion, and rage. Her portrayal as ‘Maha’, an incarnation of the goddess Kali, symbolizes divine justice and feminine energy.

Sharing the poster, the makers captioned it:
“From the cosmic womb of creation awakens the most FEROCIOUS SUPERHERO of the universe! Introducing Bhoomi Shetty as MAHA.”
Social media erupted with excitement moments after the reveal. Fans praised Bhoomi’s look for its authenticity and intensity, calling it “mind-blowing” and “apt for the role.” Even Kantara actress Sapthami Gowda congratulated Bhoomi on Instagram, writing, “God bless you with immense success!”
The post quickly gained traction online, amassing over 30,000 likes and hundreds of comments, cementing Bhoomi’s portrayal as one of the most anticipated performances of 2025.
Akshaye Khanna Joins as Shukracharya: A Stellar Addition
Adding to the excitement, the film also stars Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna in the pivotal role of Asuraguru Shukracharya, marking his Telugu cinema debut. His character, introduced in an earlier teaser, was described as “the brightest flame of rebellion in the shadows of gods.”
Khanna’s inclusion hints at a larger cosmic conflict between divine and demonic forces — setting the stage for a high-stakes mythological superhero saga that continues the PVCU legacy established by HanuMan.
Director Puja Kolluru and Varma’s Expanding Cinematic Universe
Director Puja Kolluru, taking the reins for Mahakali, is known for her strong storytelling sensibility and visual depth. Under Prasanth Varma’s creative supervision, Mahakali is set to expand the PVCU into new mythological dimensions — this time with a female-led narrative exploring themes of justice, balance, and empowerment.
The film is currently in production in Hyderabad and will reportedly feature high-end VFX, action-driven sequences, and a culturally rich soundtrack inspired by Indian folklore.
Bhoomi Shetty: The Journey from Kundapura to Mahakali
Born on February 19, 1998, in Kundapura, Karnataka, Bhoomi Shetty’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of inspiring. A mechanical engineering graduate from AMC Engineering College, Bengaluru, Bhoomi’s artistic roots lie in her early training in Yakshagana, the traditional theatre art of coastal Karnataka.
She began her career with the Kannada serial Kinnari and gained further popularity with the Telugu show Ninne Pelladatha. Her participation in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7 (2019) catapulted her into the limelight, followed by notable film roles in Ikkat, Sharathulu Varthisthai, and Kingdom.
Now, stepping into the role of ‘Maha’, Bhoomi marks a transformative moment in her career — from regional success to national stardom.
A New Era for Indian Mythological Cinema
While no official release date has been announced, Mahakali is poised to be a cultural and cinematic milestone — blending ancient mythology with modern superhero storytelling. The film continues Prasanth Varma’s mission to celebrate Indian heritage through visually spectacular, emotionally charged narratives.
As Bhoomi Shetty dons the mantle of the most ferocious goddess of creation, audiences await a visual odyssey of power, devotion, and divine justice — one that may redefine how India sees its mythological heroes.
